Did you know your smile could be in danger while you play lacrosse? Well, it’s true. This is why your dentist, Dr. Randy Cockrell, strongly encourages you to care for and protect your teeth and gums while you compete on the field. If you do your best to do so, you can maintain the top-notch smile and oral health you deserve. To help you, our dentist is happy to share some tips. Those tips are:

-Drink water instead of sports drinks: This is recommended because sports drinks contain high amounts of sugar, and sugar creates cavities. So, it’s best to drink water instead. You can’t go wrong with a little H2O!

-Wear a mouthguard: A mouthguard is a handy appliance that can help you avoid dental injuries, like knocked-out teeth, chipped teeth and more, while you’re competing on the field. This is possible because it absorbs the force applied to the teeth when hard objects hit the mouth. You can easily find a boil and bite mouthguard online or at a local sporting goods store.

-Keep up on oral hygiene: Make sure to brush twice a day, floss once a day, rinse daily, and attend your checkups every six months. Doing these things can help you have a clean and healthy smile during lacrosse season.
