Oral Hygiene

Oral Hygiene

Your oral health is as important as your overall health. Many people overlook the importance of good oral hygiene, and when you ignore it, the consequences may be damaging. You may fall prey to various oral health issues which may be difficult to treat at home.

What is Oral Hygiene?

Your health and oral hygiene go hand in hand. It means that if you maintain proper oral hygiene, you will also end up maintaining good health. In simple terms, oral hygiene refers to the practice of keeping your mouth clean and free from diseases and dental problems. When you walk into our clinic to discuss oral hygiene, our dentist will suggest you take the following measures:

Brush your teeth regularly

Brushing your teeth is the most common way to maintain your oral hygiene. However, brushing once a day is not enough. We advise you to brush twice daily, especially before sleeping, to remove food particles from your mouth.

Flossing

Merely brushing to maintain your oral hygiene is not enough as it doesn’t remove minute particles of food stuck between your teeth. Therefore, flossing your teeth is a must.

Interdental Brushes

We may also recommend you use interdental brushes to maintain oral hygiene. They work similarly to flossing and are equally effective in keeping your mouth clean.

How to Maintain Better Oral Hygiene?

Apart from practicing the above-listed tips, you must also focus on your lifestyle choices to maintain proper oral hygiene.

Eat Healthy Food

A poor diet can lead to many dental problems. For instance, a lot of intake of sugar may lead to cavities. Hence, we advise you to be particular with the food you eat. Do not consume a lot of sugary foods, and also stay away from aerated drinks.

Focus on Tooth Care

When you practice a tooth care routine daily, you can keep a majority of dental problems at bay. Consistency is essential while taking care of your teeth, and you must stick to the same.

Quit Smoking

One of the contributors to dental problems such as infections and tooth discoloration is smoking. Smoking makes your teeth look unhealthy, and we strongly suggest you quit it to maintain your oral health.

Regular Dental Check-ups

We urge you to visit our dental clinic regularly to get routine dental check-ups to know how and what to practice to maintain oral hygiene. Regular dental check-ups also form part of preventive dental care among many people.
